LJ’s Photo Session

06 Jul
July 6, 2010

A quick photography session of my lovely girlfriend, LJ, to test out lighting a subject with a single light and reflector.

The photograph was taken using a single Nikon SB600 through a softbox and a large gold reflector was used to bounce light back onto the subject and avoid some harsh shadows. The photographs were shot using a Nikon D300 and a Sigma 150mm F2.8 macro lens.

My annual visit to Newent IBOPC

June 11, 2010

Well hello; it looks like once again I’ve just returned from what can only be described as my annual pilgrimage to the Newent International Bird of Prey Centre!

Armed with my Nikon D300, D200, Sigma 150-500mm & new Sigma 70-200 f2.8 lens, I headed off with LJ on a stunning summer day to the centre to see how I would fare with the live action displays that they put on 3 times a day.

BTCC Thruxton 2009

November 8, 2009

A visit to Thruxton to watch the British Touring Car Championship gave me the perfect opportunity to test out my new Sigma 150 – 500mm OS lens out as well as my fairly heavy Manfrotto monopod out on some fast moving cars!

Apart from a farily spectacular crash on the first race of the day pretty much in front of us, the day was filled with loads of action but no accidents (thankfully!)

Below is a shot taken with the previously mentioned lens on a D300 shot around 270mm at 1/160th at f13.

More close action racing with the Porsche Cup was up next; again taken with the Sigma 150 – 500mm at full zoom. I have to admit, that even though I had some OS issues with the D300 and the Sigma (something I’ve also had with the 150mm macro causing the camera to say that the battery is dead and require a restart!!) that it is an amazing lens for motorsports and wildlife photography.

Motorcross 2009

November 8, 2009

Being a fan of motorsport photography, this was my first time shooting Motorcross and the challenges it holds. Thankfully, the weather was pretty good for a change without any rain, so the track was dry and dusty (next time I’ll take something to cover the camera and lenses!)

The track near Worcester, England was a pretty short affair and offered some cool bends, drops and jump opportunities for both the riders and myself.
