I took the opportunity this afternoon to get out on the new Felt F95 2014 road bike to see if I can actually make a connection with the bike and riding a road bike after many years on the Cube MTB. Well, it looks like today was a step forward. I must confess to the fact that the transition from MTB to Road Bike really hasn’t been an easy or smooth affair. But, after an hour or 2 out on it tonight and actually really enjoyed the experience. I’m starting to feel more comfortable with the geometry and riding position (well, mostly) but feel like I still need to make some adjustments to get it exactly where I like it. Although, after not owning a road bike for many years, I have to admit that I’m not 100% sure what I should be looking for or expecting.
Just had a go of the new Tone City pedals I ordered on the weekend and what can I say…. wow!! The Wild Fire is an amazing little distortion pedal; really offers some seriously nice crunch to either a clean channel or an over-driven channel. Couple that with the toggle for Modern or British voicing and the insane amount of level boost on tap, should you need it, and for £39.99 it really does punch above its weight.
I’m still playing with the Angel Wings chorus, but initial tests put a smile on my face.
I can certainly say that just adding the Wild Fire has opened up my Marshall JMD:1 and put a massive grin on my face.
I’m working on a video review that will be up on my Suicide Evolution YouTube Channel in the next week or so, so check that out too
I’ve been mountain biking for the last 3 or so years and absolutely love it, but find that 35 ish miles is as far as I’m really comfortable riding and I want to go further. So, with that thought in mind, I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a road bike (or a Cyclocross bike) for the last year or so. Well, I ended up investing in a new Felt F95 road bike (sadly I missed out on a sweet deal for a Cube Peloton) and the bike was delivered to me today. So, after spending a little time fitting the handlebars and pedals, it was time to try it out and then adjust the saddle height, position, handlebars, etc.
Before I could do that I needed to give it a quick whirl to see what needed adjusting. So, on I hopped and went for a spin up the road to get a feel for the required adjustments. Sweet Jesus, what the hell am I riding!!! After so many years riding a mountain bike, this road bike felt like a totally alien contraption! The brakes were in a weird place, the gear changers are all wrong and the handlebars! What the hell are these….? They are too short, a stupid shape and the brakes are just out of reach… I hate it, I feel wobbly, unsafe and just plain wrong! Read More
Well, it looks like I have finally defected to the Dark Side and invested in a new road bike – A Felt F95 2014 in black and green. First ride later today and expect a review soon(ish) 🙂
It’s days like today that you really appreciate simple things. It’s my day off and a few years back I would have normally sat around doing nothing particularly exhilarating. Playing on the Playstation or XBox, maybe a bit of surfing and if I was really bored, some stuff around the house.
Well that was before the new lease of life that buying a bike gave me. Don’t get me wrong, buying a bike hasn’t changed my entire life; nothing that massive. But what it has given me is a greater love of the outdoors. Getting out, seeing new places, getting off the beaten track and a real enjoyment of my own company.
