Motorcross 2009

Being a fan of motorsport photography, this was my first time shooting Motorcross and the challenges it holds. Thankfully, the weather was pretty good for a change without any rain, so the track was dry and dusty (next time I’ll take something to cover the camera and lenses!)

The track near Worcester, England was a pretty short affair and offered some cool bends, drops and jump opportunities for both the riders and myself.

It was a good job I took my trusty Nikon 70-300 VR as the Sigma 150-500mm was WAY too long to use on the track. I have to say that if you’re looking for a reliable, fast (focus as opposed to max aperture), then you really can’t go far wrong with this lens, it’s a gem!

The first shots were of the main jump and was a good starting point to get a feel for the sport and how to shoot it. While the shots were technically fine they lacked anything special for me. The sky was a bland grey affair and the background was pretty busy.
